From the desk of Peter Blatt
December 18, 2012
While we prepare for the coming Holidays and the ensuing celebrations, we’re also collectively mourning the horrific and tremendous losses suffered by the residents of Newtown, Connecticut, and the entire nation. The level of violence visited upon this sleepy, enchanting New England town is unprecedented, and the sickening manifestation of unspeakable evil is disturbingly real.
The timing is also sickening, although perhaps intentionally so. The holiday season is a time to give and receive tremendous joy, warmth and comfort, all of which occurs naturally while we’re spending time with our most cherished loved ones. These feelings are vital to our spiritual and emotional well-being; they are indeed integral to the fabric of our humanity. These feelings, however vividly experienced by the majority of good, loving people, are foreign and devoid in individuals who perpetrate mass murder on innocent souls. Their loss becomes our loss, and questions as to why remain unsolved.
So this Holiday, we know you’ll hug and hold your family a little tighter, just like our family will. We know you’ll think of and hold those who suffered at the hands of this egregiously unjustifiable crime in your prayers. And when you do, you’ll find some peace and a renewed ray of hope, and so too will the residents and families of Newtown.
Here’s to wishing you the happiest of holidays, and to the best of new years today and for many years to come.
Until next time,
