At the Center for Asset Management, we believe success is about more than just smart investing. It’s about building meaningful connections and growing in all aspects of life. That’s why our recent Dine & Discover event on March 20, 2025, was so impactful.
We had the pleasure of welcoming Karen E. Pfeffer, co-founder of Fire Power Seminars and a true expert when it comes to communication, leadership, and breaking through barriers. Karen’s journey is inspiring. From becoming the first woman president of the Florida Bank Marketing Association to founding a successful marketing agency and then pivoting her expertise to empower individuals and companies through transformational training—she’s done it all.
The focus of her presentation? Best Methods of Communication with the Next Generation. And let me tell you, it couldn’t have come at a better time. Whether you’re trying to connect with your kids, clients, colleagues, or anyone else from a different generation, understanding how they prefer to communicate makes all the difference.
Karen’s message was simple yet powerful: Communication is determined by the receiver. It’s not about what you say—it’s about how your message is received and understood.
She broke down the unique communication styles of each generation:
- Traditionalists: Prefer formal, structured messaging and value respect and hierarchy.
- Baby Boomers: Value relationships and personal interactions but are less dependent on digital communication.
- Generation X: Appreciate efficiency, independence, and directness—email works best.
- Millennials: Prefer quick, engaging digital communication and expect fast responses.
- Generation Z: Love visuals, brevity, and messaging through social platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

Karen’s advice was practical and straightforward:
- Adapt Your Style: Understand and respect how different generations prefer to communicate.
- Use Multiple Channels: Emails, phone calls, texts, in-person conversations—use them all when needed.
- Encourage Open Dialogue: Listening is just as important as speaking. Make sure everyone feels heard.
- Balance Technology and Personal Connection: Digital tools are fantastic, but never underestimate the power of a genuine, personal touch.
- Set Clear Expectations: Simply asking someone how they prefer to communicate can make all the difference.
I left the event feeling energized and inspired. Karen’s insights reaffirmed what I’ve always believed: Successful communication is about building relationships, not just exchanging information. When we adapt our approach to connect more effectively, we strengthen those relationships and create lasting value.

As we move forward, let’s all strive to communicate better, listen more, and build stronger connections. It’s not just smart—it’s essential.
Until next time, stay positive, stay connected, and keep growing.
